Introduction to Sources: The majority of the material in this course comes from the research and practical advice found in the podcast The Drive hosted by Petter Attia and Outlive: The Science and Art of Longevity by Peter Attia. Attia is a renowned physician focused on longevity, and his work delves into the science behind aging. His approach examines how specific lifestyle choices can not only extend life but enhance our health span—the number of years we remain healthy, active, and vibrant. His concepts focus on prevention and proactive care, which align with what I have seen work for my patients.

Personal Experience: As a physical therapist, I’ve worked with many patients, and I’ve noticed that some people age gracefully and maintain their abilities well into their later years, while others struggle. This variability got me thinking—what exactly makes the difference? Through years of observation, I’ve noticed common traits among those who age well. It's not just about having a strict gym routine; it’s about staying socially engaged, enjoying activities with friends, and maintaining an overall zest for life. People who have fun, laugh, and remain active in their communities tend to do better in the long run. This course will highlight how those factors, combined with exercise, nutrition, and sleep, can contribute to a healthier aging process.

A Journey of Discovery: My curiosity led me to Outlive, and I found it so insightful that I read and re-read it, taking notes and relating it to my own experiences with patients. Peter Attia’s focus on exercise, nutrition, sleep, and mental well-being echoed the positive results I’ve seen in people who stay healthy as they age. The book helped clarify ideas about how we can take control of our aging process, rather than leaving it to chance. Through this course, I want to share these insights with you, so you can make informed decisions and be more intentional about how you age.

Why This Course Exists: I created this course to blend my hands-on experience as a physical therapist with the scientific principles of longevity that Attia advocates for. I aim to help you embrace aging as an opportunity to continue thriving rather than viewing it as a decline. We’ll discuss how you can move toward what Attia calls "Medicine 3.0," a more advanced, preventative approach to healthcare that prioritizes long-term wellness over the reactive treatments in traditional medicine methods. I’m thrilled to guide you on this journey and show you that by making small, consistent changes, you can age gracefully and enjoy life for years to come.

What to Expect from the Course: Throughout these eight weeks, we’ll explore the "four pillars" of exercise—strength, endurance, stability, and mobility—and how they support healthy aging. You’ll learn practical strategies to assess your baseline fitness and make personalized improvements. We'll also discuss the importance of maintaining a balanced approach to exercise, and how to adapt it to fit your own goals and lifestyle. The steps you take now don’t have to be drastic—gradual and manageable adjustments will lead to lasting benefits. The goal is to give you the tools and knowledge to stay active, healthy, and independent as you age.
